These values matter because the drum rotates inside a machined housing with narrow sealing gaps. A drum that exceeds the parallelism or axial-displacement tolerance will allow wet air to bypass the desiccant sectors. The result is a rising dew point that the dryer control system cannot correct.

How the Heat-of-Compression Drum Works

Three sectors in one rotation

The MD 300 and MD 400 dryers use the heat of compression as their regeneration energy source. Hot discharge air from the oil-free compressor enters the drum and passes through the molecular-sieve medium. Water molecules adhere to the sieve surface while dry air continues to the outlet. Because the air arrives at roughly 100 °C from a two-stage oil-free compressor, the drying process needs no external heater.

As the drum rotates, the saturated sector moves into the regeneration zone. A controlled fraction of the dried air expands across a nozzle into the sector, picking up the moisture that the sieve had adsorbed. The regenerative air carries that moisture out through the purge outlet. A third sector passes through the cooling zone, where a small flow of ambient air lowers the sieve temperature so it is ready to adsorb again.

Why the drum rotates slowly

The 1614761873 turns at a fraction of one revolution per minute. The slow speed gives each sector enough residence time in the drying zone to reach adsorption equilibrium before it rotates into regeneration. Faster rotation would shorten the contact time and leave moisture on the sieve. Slower rotation would reduce the effective drying capacity because too small a fraction of the drum face would face the wet inlet flow at any moment.
