Series Overview
The Atlas Copco ZE/ZA family covers 1–4 bar(e) (14.5–58 psig) with installed motor power from 30 to 522 kW (40–700 hp). Five frame sizes — ZE/ZA 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 — scale from the smallest flows to the largest process duties. ZE denotes the air-cooled variant and ZA the water-cooled variant; both are fully oil-free in the air stream. The range chart shows ZE/A 2 at the low-flow end, ZE/A 3-4 in the mid range, and ZA 5-6 at the high end, spanning from a few hundred up to over 7,200 l/s (≈26,000 m³/h) across 0–4 bar(g).

ZE/ZA 2 — Reliability and Robustness
Oil pump: The oil pump is mounted on the drive shaft to reduce the number of auxiliary motors. It provides reliable lubrication across a wide operating range. High-precision drive system: AGMA Q13 / DIN Class 5 gears minimize transmission losses, noise, and vibration, and prolong element lifetime. Coated rotors: A unique Teflon coating increases efficiency, extends lifetime, and protects against corrosion. The carbon steel rotors are synchronized with nickel-alloyed gears and resist temperatures up to 4 bar(e). Electrical cabinet: Standard short-circuit protection is rated 50 kA (IEC) or 65 kA (CSA/UL), with fixed-speed and VSD variants available.

ZE/ZA 3-4 — Preferred Choice for Reliability and Efficiency
State-of-the-art screw element: Cooling jackets keep rotor clearances to an absolute minimum, improving reliability and efficiency. Efficient shaft sealing eliminates oil-leakage risk and guarantees 100% oil-free air. Air in- and outtake: Intake and cooling-air outlets have mounting positions for easy ducting, internal baffling reduces noise, and separated cooling flows avoid recirculation. Integrated VSD (optional): The cabinet holds a fully integrated frequency converter and control panel — no extra engineering needed — with no compressed-air blow-off at partial flow. Aftercooler (optional): A stainless-steel pre-cooler plus aluminum aftercooler handles high heat stress. Totally enclosed motor: IP55 TEFC protection, IE3 (equal to NEMA Premium), with a dry coupling that needs no lubrication. Air filter: High-filtration-class intake filters extend service intervals and improve efficiency.
