How the WSD 80 Water Separator Works

The 1613935680 separates liquid water the same way the whole WSD family does: by centrifugal force, not by a filter element. Wet compressed air enters the body tangentially and is forced into a fast spin. Heavier water droplets are flung outward against the wall and slide down to the bottom. The drier air core continues up and out of the outlet.

Centrifugal separation, no consumable element

Because the separation stage has no cartridge or mesh to clog, the 1613935680 needs no element replacement to keep separating water. The spin is driven entirely by the air velocity already present in the line, so the unit adds almost no resistance and loses no measurable pressure across the body. That is why a WSD sits quietly in the network and asks for almost nothing in return.

Centrifugal separation is best at removing the bulk droplets that form in the aftercooler — the visible water that would otherwise flood the dryer. It is not a substitute for a dryer or a coalescing filter, which catch the remaining mist and oil aerosol.
